Liverpool’s potential move for Ismaïla Sarr may not be the headline signing supporters are dreaming of, but there are plenty of reasons to consider it smart business.
Sarr scored nine Premier League goals and provided one assist last season, giving him a goal threat that Liverpool could use from the right wing. His pace, acceleration and ability to shoot with either foot make him an unpredictable option in the final third.
At 28, Sarr also offers something different from younger options who may require more time to adapt to Liverpool and the Premier League. His ability to play across the front line, including as a number nine or false nine, could provide valuable depth behind Alexander Isak.
Perhaps most importantly, Sarr brings a willingness to shoot. Liverpool need players prepared to take responsibility when opportunities appear. His tendency to get shots away could add another source of goals, particularly in a side capable of creating the attacking situations that Iraola’s patterns are designed to produce.
Sarr may not be the most consistent player, but that unpredictability can become an asset. He can create chaos, attack space and give Liverpool another direct threat.
For around £50 million, he could be a useful addition to Liverpool’s attacking options, particularly if the club can still strengthen elsewhere.
